I feel like its every other week that I'm writing about a new high for Pokemon prices, and not in the good way. Soon to release is the 'Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic', the now most expensive single Pokemon TCG product that's ever been on the market. This product is one for the record books, but what exactly is it, and why is it so expensive?
Releasing on November 17th, the Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic, will officially become the most expensive single Pokemon TCG item ever sold. The product will be retailing for a hefty $399.99. To put it into perspective that's almost 3 booster boxes, or for the younger readers, 50,000 V-bucks. The product is being sold both online and in retail stores, yet interestingly will be sold by GameStop on November 3rd. GameStop has yet to put out any additional details so far.
The box contains three entirely different decks, with each deck featuring a combination of cards which are either older reprints or newer additions; unsurprisingly, the older cards seem to be stealing the show. It is unsurprising considering that the older cards which are being featured are the original cards for the Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle lines. Yes, this means that this is yet another product in which Charizard is featured. The box also contains deck boxes, and presumably other accessories needed to fully play the Pokemon TCG.
Why the product will be so expensive is a much less simple to answer question. In all honesty, it's not really one that can be truly answered right now. The same product, or at least the counterpart to our version, in Japan costs an astonishing 35,000 yen, which is equivalent to about $240. This places the Japanese product one and a half Benjamins cheaper than its English variant, for no known reason. Hopefully soon we'll have an answer.
